Xenocrates of Chalcedon (4th century BC) held a somewhat bizarre metaphysical vie. He thought that the world contains three different kind of beings, and that each of these could be associated with the three different types of triangles! Gods, being perfect, are to be associated with equilateral triangles, which have equal sides; humans, being imperfect, are to be associated with scalene triangles, which have three unequal sides; and daemons, being some way between gods and humans, are to be associated with isosceles triangles, which have just two sides of equal length!
